Your questions, answered

In this section, you'll find Frequently Asked Questions about us and our practices.

Are you part of Admiral Group?

BDE Law Limited is a joint venture between Admiral Group PLC and Cordner Lewis. We are an independent legal practice, regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.

BDE Law Limited trades as EUI Law, Diamond Law and Elephant Law. If you are a Bell, Diamond or Elephant Insurance Customer, you are speaking to us after having consented for your details to be passed over to us so we can assist you following a road traffic incident.

Our systems are separate from Admiral but we may communicate with them to ensure that your claim progresses smoothly at all times. We will, at all times act in your best interest.

How long will my claim take to settle?

Just like our clients, every claim is different and settlement times vary from case-to-case.

Your case handler will keep you updated with anticipated settlement times throughout the life of your claim with us.

Who are the medical agency and why do I have to have a medical examination?

A medical agency may arrange for a medical expert to examine you to help us verify the nature and extent of your accident related injuries.

Attending the medical examination is a crucial stage of your claim, the report produced by the doctor will allow us to ensure that we value your claim accurately and will also help us to ensure that any on-going injuries are treated correctly.

Your claim cannot proceed until this examination is undertaken.

Once we have instructed the agency, they will write to you and inform you of the time and location of your appointment.

I can't attend my medical examination, what do I do?

That’s not a problem; just contact the agency to arrange a new appointment. You must inform the agency if you are unable to attend you appointment as failure to do so may result in you being charged for non-attendance.

What financial losses can I claim for?

You can claim for any financial losses that you have reasonably incurred as a result of the accident. These can be incidental expenses, such as travel costs, the cost of medication and damaged property. You can also claim on-going losses, such as any costs associated with your care, any loss of earnings that you may have suffered and also the cost of your rehabilitation.

This list is not exhaustive and you will only be able to claim for items where evidence in support is available.

We will advise you on what you can and can't claim for in more detail during the life of your case with us.

Why do you need my National Insurance number?

Unfortunately, we can't submit your claim without your national insurance number.

This is because we are required to register your claim with the Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU) of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). CRU work with insurance companies, solicitors and DWP customers, to recover social security benefits and NHS costs in certain cases.

Where repayment is necessary, any deduction is set out in a certificate sent by CRU and the sum will be deducted from any compensation awarded as part of your personal injury claim.

How do I pay for my claim?

You may have legal expenses insurance (LEI) that will cover your legal costs; we can check this for you. If you do not have suitable LEI, we will advise you of your options including ‘no win, no fee arrangements’ For more details see our Funding page
